Things do go wrong but the important thing is, "What attitude do you have?"

Arriving at our friend’s condo at a private resort we went to the guardhouse at the main entrance.

There had been an auto accident on the grounds and the guard was gone. A young woman from the reception desk had been called into duty and she was very stressed. She knew nothing about the key we were to pick up and could find no evidence of it. I went to the property management office and found a woman who knew we were coming. She called the guardhouse with the correct key number. (Our friends had inadvertently given us the wrong address.) I went back to find the young woman was still rather frantic, but with some effort she was able to find a key.

When I finally got to the condo the key would not fit. It did not go all the way into the lock. Nothing I could do would open the lock. I drove back to the guardhouse only to find that a rather large, stern, female guard had returned. She was initially somewhat suspicious about why I had a key and how I got it. When I explained she became more cooperative and said she would come and check the lock. The guard seemed to assume that I just did not know how to do it. She arrived after a while but could not get the key to fit. She decided that something was broken off in the lock and left saying she would call maintenance to come and check it.

After a while the maintenance person arrived. He was friendly and worked for about 30 minutes to remove the obstacle from the lock. He left to go to his workshop and returned telling me that we had been given the wrong key. Nothing was caught in the lock, but the key was cut wrong. He also determined this condo was private property and not one of the resort’s rentals. He had no other keys and could not make one. He could not help further because he would be "breaking and entering." He did take me to see some "head person" and it was agreed there was nothing they could do because the condo was private property.

It was now about six o’clock in the evening. We had been trying to get into the condo for two hours. My wife and I decided to go eat and just wait.
